Sends two pictures. Has received the Outwitted card but hasn't done much to get in on the market. Is patiantly waiting for his books. Passes on regarads from Dr. Scott and Mrs. Kinnear. They are all looking forward to meeting him again.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
